Baby Shamilla gets her glow
When 6 month old Shamilla was taken to Jinja hospital, she was very sick, weighing only 4.5 kilograms. Shamilla was diagnosed with severe malnutrition and started on Ready to use Therapeutic Food-RUTAFA. While at the hospital Shamilla’s mother was taught about how to easily prepare nutritious meals including plenty of vegetables and fruit. When Shamilla was discharged, the nurse, Jane, visited the family at home to ensure that they continued with the balanced nutritious diet. A few weeks after they were discharged, Shamilla had improved greatly. Shamilla’s mother thought she had a new glow and nurse Jane was thrilled: “I am proud of her, when she came she weighed 4.5 Kilograms and was tiny, but now she even has energy to play”. The USAID Production for Improved Nutrition project is enabling many babies like Shamilla access lifesaving treatment for malnutrition-RUTF under the RUTAFA brand which is administered under the care of trained health workers like nurse Jane.
