USAID/UGANDA – PRODUCTION FOR IMPROVED NUTRITION JOB VACANCIES

Background to the Project:

RECO Industries Ltd is implementing USAID/UGANDA’s Production for Improved Nutrition project. The project works to reduce the burden of under nutrition by providing Ready to Use Therapeutic and supplementary foods to pregnant women, breast feeding mothers, and people living with HIV/AIDS in Uganda. The project seeks to fill the vacant positions below;

 

Position: Agricultural Field Officer

No. of positions: One

Reports to: Regional Field Supervisor

Duty station: Pallisa

Work Hours: Full time

Contract Period: December 2016 to July 2017

Position Summary

The Agriculture Field Officer (AFO) will take the lead in implementing the Livelihood components of the project in the district of coverage. He/she will be the principal technical contact person in the districts of operations for activities and interventions related to the project. He/ she will also collaborate with other existing community-based organizations (CBOs) and non-government organizations (NGOs) to support Producer Organizations (POs) produce the required staple/ commercial crops (raw materials) as well as engage in homestead/ kitchen gardening (vegetables/ fruit growing) for home consumption.

 

Key duties & responsibilities

  • Recruitment of Producer organizations (POs) and give them community based management skills
  • Training of POs in village saving and loan association (VSLA) formation and support their establishment
  • Train PO lead farmers (and OVC Care givers) using Farmer Field School (FFS) methodology in improved farming methods, nutrition, home gardening, post harvest handling and storage, farming as a business and supervise their training of farmers.
  • Facilitate linkages of POs with agro-input dealers as well as produce buyers
  • Contribute to development, collection and use of public relations materials including notes from the field, photos, and other information as needed.
  • May represent the project in the District Operations Plan (DOP) meetings and any other for a as assigned by the supervisor.
  • Provide written and verbal reports on progress as required.
  • Any other duties assigned by the supervisor

 

Qualifications, skills and experience

  • At least a diploma or equivalent in agriculture.
  • At least three (3) years of significant professional experience in implementing agriculture programs and development activities at the community and household levels.
  • Technical expertise pertinent to Farmer Field School.
  • Familiarity with agronomical practices for maize, groundnuts and soy beans.
  • Experience in capacity building and transfer or skills is also essential.
  • Familiarity with and commitment to addressing gender equality in agriculture is required.
  • Excellent verbal, interpersonal and written communication skills in English.
  • Strong analytical, problem solving and decision making capabilities.
  • Team player with the ability to work in a fast-paced environment.
  • Ability to work with all levels of national and international staff, as well as clients.
  • Microsoft Word, Excel and Power Point experience.

 

Position: Monitoring & Evaluation Specialist

No. of positions:Two

Reports to: M&E Manager

Duty station: Masindi or Mbale

Work Hours: Full time

Contract Period: December 2016 to July 2017

 

Position Summary

Under the primary supervision of the M&E Manager and secondary supervision of the Chief of Party, the M&E Specialist will work closely with the technical staff for implementation of the project M&E system that will consistently provide reliable and accurate information for informed management decision making. The M&E Specialist will coordinate implementation of the entire components of the project within the assigned region and assume management of the regional office.

 

Key duties & responsibilities

  • Manage the regional office inclusive of staff management, supervision and deployment, and custodianship of the project property and resources.
  • Manage the budgetary and financial controls at the regional office.
  • Generate monthly and quarterly project progress reports.
  • Responsible for data collection in selected districts in the assigned region.
  • Develop regional quarterly work plans.
  • Participate in development of annual work plans.
  • Participate in review of the PMP and tracking tools.
  • Participate in baseline studies, researches and evaluations.
  • Conduct data quality assessments, monitoring and support supervisions.
  • Conduct quarterly project performance assessments and disseminate findings to management and technical staff.
  • Train technical staff in M&E functions.
  • Support data entry in the project Management Information System.
  • Represent the project in technical meetings and workshops.
  • Any other duties that may be assigned by the supervisor.

 

Qualifications, skills and experience

  • Minimum of a bachelor’s degree in statistics, social studies, development studies and any related subject.
  • Possession of a post graduate qualification in M&E will be an added advantage.
  • At least 5 years’ experience in performing M&E related tasks in a development organization
